| Title : | The IOM Report on Gulf War Syndrome |
The American Institute of Medicine's (IOM) report entitled "Gulf War & Health (Health Effects of Serving in the Gulf War-Update 2009)" has had its release date moved to the first week in March.
It is a significant report as the American Department for Veterans Affairs asked the IOM to carry out the study based on scientific literature published since it's last report in 2006. This is effectively in response to the RAC report released in Nov 2008 which concluded that GWS was real. As the IOM's 2006 conclusions differed so dramatically from the RAC's findings it is still unclear what the outcome will be.
The RAC report, which at the time was thought to be a positive conclusion and admission of Governmental failures for GWS sufferers, has been held on the backburner both across the water, and in the UK until this IOM report is released. MoD Spokeswoman Baroness Taylor of Bolton has stated in the House of Lords that "The British Government's position is that we will not comment on the RAC report until the IOM issues its own report."
The NGVFA will keep you up to date with any outcomes as soon as we can.
